I like Flowmaster. I have the Super 44 series. Impressive rumble, acceleration, and cruising. Running the pipes out back behind the rear tire makes it quiet in the cab but still quite loud on the exterior, so you get the best of both worlds. I'm sure someone will comment under me saying "Don't get the Flowmaster, they don't flow well at ALL! Buy a Magnaflow!"

Look at the inside of a FMS44 and tell me it doesn't flow well. If you want good flow, buy a Thrush glass pack. No internal brackets to disrupt air waves and it's cheaper than any Magnaflow. Plus it sounds good IMHO.

By the way, this post isn't bashing Magnaflow. I like them too. It's just that any time I (or anyone else) mentions Flowmaster, someone instantly jumps on the subject and bashes it into the ground.

A agree, some people rip into flowmaster, complaining at how they aren't straight through, blah blah blah. An maybe the peak output is not as high as some other mufflers, but in my experience, they still offer power gains, they encourage positive exhaust scavenging, which helps make sure you have bottom end power, and I like they way they sound when they are installed properly. And if you don't want to buy the original, our Fullblown line, sounds not just similar, they are identical in sound. I have a Fullblown on my van, and it sounds great, louder than stock, but not annoying. If it was too loud, I would not have used it on a van, which tends to resonate inside its large interior. I have no droning or resonation problem. But it is loud enough to get peoples attention, especially if you open it up.

I do have a sound clip of my own van. It should sound better on a V8 (I have a V6)

Sounds good! What did you do with your cats?

I'm kind of wishing I had gone with the 50 series FM. More than anything, I just wish my 300 emitted noise at idle and in the low end, where it sounds the best. WOT sounds good, but if I went WOT at every chance I don't think my 300 would last very long. LOL

Same way I feel. I've just never used Magnaflow, so I don't know how it would sound on my truck. I've heard a Magnaflow on a Dodge and it sounded awesome. Of course, what doesn't? Dodge has the best sounding trucks. Don't know why.

You're probably right. I live in the suburbs and most of the vehicles I see every day are new. Well, maybe not all the vehicles, but a lot of the vehicles I see with modded exhaust are. This means post '96 F150s, Chevies, Dodges. Out of the three I hear Dodge and Chevie trucks the most (as in; modded exhaust). Out of Chevie and Dodge of them, Dodge makes the best sound that I've heard. Now, I'm sure they're not all small V8's with Flowmaster 40's. I'm sure some are Big V8's with different types of Mufflers; but from what I hear, Dodge ALWAYS grabs my attention. In fact, I can almost hear the difference between a Dodge V8 and a Ford or Chevy.

I don't like Dodge (I'd drive one gladly if one was given to me, I just think they are ugly). I'm not saying they make a better truck. They just always catch my ears in the sound department.

I'd take a free Dodge anyday too.

Then I'd turn around and sell it to buy a Ford or fix up the one I've got

I'd buy a brand new single cab black step side F-150, V8, 4x4, same tires as I have now, same exhaust set up.

If not that, than a 4x4 Ford Ranger with the 4.0L.

Hey, a guy can dream.

Long time ago, I was told by a good mechanic buddy of mine (who incidentally accused me of sleeping with his wife but that's neither here nor there lol) that straight pipes don't provide enough back pressure for your engine to run correctly...

Aye or Nay?

Straight pipes sound like crap. Everyone here has them on their trucks, and I mean everything from an old clunker Chevy to a brand new Toyota Tundra, and it makes your truck sound like a redneck rocket. blah.
