You can get a manual choke kit at most parts stores for about $20. I usually see them in the "Help!" section. The kit comes with the choke cap, cable, bracket, and anything else you need.
Yeah you can sometimes get away with not even drilling a hole in your firewall for the cable. Just find a pre-existing one for other wiring projects or sometimes you can even squeeze it through the hole for your steering column (lol)
I got one of those kits, but it was junk so i used it for a while and switched back to the automatic because it barley worked at all. I got mine from jc whitney for $11
I had a manual choke and it broke apart, would this cause any problems on say, top end or bottom end performance, I've just left it apart, it starts ok if you pump it enuff .....could this create a 'too much air' problem?

Nah it's only necessary for starting reasons. If you can do that w/o a choke then all the better
