Catalytic converter question

Ok so I sold the Bronco. It was a very tough decision but the wife "allowed" me to buy a diesel and I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Anyway I sold the Bronco to a good friend who I know will take good care of it and he failed the emission test and is told to replace an o2 sensor and 1 of the 2 CATs. I was wondering if he could put on a hi-flow instead, would he need to take both off for a hi-flow or does he just replace the bad one that they say needs to go with the hi-flow, or should he just go OEM? Here are the numbers they gave him for the CAT 097-1200-8 and 15742. I'm not sure which CAT it is but I hope those help.

Thanks for your help.

If the bronco came with two cats, I would leave it that way for emissions testing. those people at the test station are fairly strict when it comes to changing the emission equipment. Just replace the O2 sensor and the one cat. Good Luck

I would replace the O2 and then dump both factory cats for a single high flow cat. My truck passes with just the front cat. Some day later on, it may get a high flow cat.

Also, the high flow cats don't cost all that much.
