Hey guys I have been thinking about toying with my exhaust. I dont have a crazy amount of money because I am a poor college kid ahaha. I got a 94 F250 with the 5.8 liter 351. Heres what I was thinking. Get rid of everything after the cat, and then run a single 3 inch pipe from the cat to a flowmaster 40 series, and then exit either right before the back tire or right after it. What do you guys think??
Single 3" is a pretty good choice. I would choose a different muffler, I am just not a fan of Flowmasters. Maybe Dynomax ultraflow, Corsa, Borla, something that sounds different from every classic chevy and mustang.
Exit before the tire will be a little louder. Removing the cat will make the exhaust smell a bit more and is illegal, so don't do it or don't do it in an inspection state.
How loud are you going for? I like Flowmasters too. If you want to save some money, we have a Flowmaster imitation that is very good. Unlike some other imitations, our is not made in China. The quality is just as good as the original, it just doesn't say Flowmaster on it, I have our 50 series on my vehicle, love the sound, and have had it for several years.
Well I figure since I am keeping the stock cat, and not going to true duals, that it probably isnt going to be too loud anyway. Plus I have seen some 40 series flow masteres for like 78 bucks.... How much is the one that sounds like one but isnt actually one?? I think that a 3 inch pipe with the 40 series will have a decent sound, better than stock ya know?
I just put a 3" cat back system on my 89 w/460 and I went with a Cherry Bomb Elite 22" muffler part #7503. it sounds very nice. Mellow at idle and cruise. I compared it to the flo pro 40 series and like the sound much better and it is high quality and made in the USA.
