I did find one on my pc that I couldn't see an avatar, but the user hadn't created one.. It just showed the username way over to the left, which is what you described..
I will take my puter to town tomorrow and see if I can see Mark's avatar from a wireless connection at Starbucks. Don't know if that should matter, but it would be interesting if nothing else.

I don't see anything that is common about this..
If it was all avatars I would suspect a setting, but this is random avatars..
The only common thing I can see is the slower connection, which should have no effect on it.. They may load slow, but they should load..
I would have said reset your internet setting to defaults, but you say everything is fine on the faster internet..
Well I need to get some shut eye.. It's 1.30 am here..
