Here is what I am looking at. 1997 f-350 crew cab long box, diesel, 4x4, auto tranny and about 90,000 miles clean truck from michigan. What do you guys think that It is worth and what problems should I look for? Thankyou Brandon. Also what kind of mileage should this truck get pulling a 15,000 lbs 5th wheel, and also what do they get unloaded? any info would be great thanks.
mine gets 4-8mpg with 15-20k behind it. Alot of it depends on how hard you push it. If i make any kinda boost it sucks fuel. If it hase 4.10 rears it should get a litle better towing. Stock you can see 14-18 empty

Make sure you've got one big trans cooler on that automatic for towing..I have a 95 F-250 with a 5 speed and 3.55 gears, I get close to 20 running empty and 12-13 pulling a 9000 pound 35 foot trailer.
yeah i know. i still dont see how these guys get high teens with stock trucks and auto. My best was like 15.5 and even with a chip could only get 17-18 highway
the 5 speed trucks seem to get about 2 mpg over us auto guys....grrrr....lol
I'm just a retired guy who goes real easy on the throttle, I think that helps with the mileage, this truck seldom goes over 60, and usually tows at 55-60. As to Brandon 350's question about the trucks worth and things to look for... I'd guess about $8000? Look for the usual things, leaks, how the tranny shifts, check the front end for wear, other guys on here can pipe in with other more technical stuff...
if i stay at 50-55 mph i think i could break the 20 mpg mark with my rig, my problem is my foot and the hills in our area. my typical day is 80-85 on the highway and then 60-65 on the backroads and the accompanied hills and i can still manage 16-18.
There are more than a few guys scattered around here in Mi.....I am sure if there is no scheduling conflict they would be happy to check it out with you....were is the truck located....if it is within an hr or so from me I can look it over with you
Nice gesture Ron, Tried to rep ya but...
I offer the same.
Brandon, I have the same truck (96). I get 15MPG average.
Before I loaded all the crap in it I saw 20+ MPG running @ 55-60MPH.
BTW: "Rant" There aren't many clean trucks in MI
unless they were kept in a bubble. "End of rant"

I consistently get 17-18 MPG now. My best was 20 MPG. Ran the tank dry on that one, so I know the numbers are accurate. Of course, now that Rubber Duck has helped me with some mods, I have more incentive to get into the throttle a little deeper. So I expect my mileage may drop off some.
The truck is located in Williamston MI, the owner told me that the truck was realy clean and he is going to send me some better pics of the truck so I can see what she looks like before I drive out there.
