recent 08' purcase anyone?
I am not sure what TTL is in CA, but based on your numbers of 20K off I would assume 3K. The MSRP is 54K, which means invoice to the dealer is about 49K. Minus another $1500-2000 for holdback brings you to 47K. Current rebates I could find for CA are 8K (good through 11/18), so now your at 39K.
You are not trading anything and paying cash so there is no way to for the dealer to make some money off the finance reserve or your trade. I am also assuming the 54K is the MSRP on the window stick from Ford without any dealer added options. So in order for you to get down to 34K the dealer is going to sell you a truck for 5K less than what he pays Ford for it.
It does not make any sense for a dealer to make that deal but if so all I have to say is "You Da Man!!!" 37K otd is an awesome deal and maybe you can get more maybe not but I would like to know the name of the dealer or better yet see a copy of the sales invoice.
The reason for a such a great deal is these are not ordinary times. Consumer's money has dried up and diesel is twice what it was two years ago. This dealer has a lot full of trucks and are paying through their nose in flooring fees. As the sales manager told me: "The owner just wants to see the back of these things." American dealerships have for so long gambled that their huge lots of cars will sell, and up until this year they've been largely proved right. However, after the current debacle expect them to adopt the European system of only a few "show cars" on the lot with most needing to order. Since you can buy a car and drive away with it same day in the US unlike Europe, I'm sure the inventory will still stay relatively large but nothing like what we see know.
Now, here's my position. I have them down to $37k before ttl after light negotiations. I haven't even pushed for that price otd but I'm assuming there's got to be another $3k to give as the $17k reduction came from nothing more than me saying, "nice truck but $54k is crazy money." Literally that was it. Now, if I can do better than this further $3k is pure conjecture on my part, I'll certainly try but will settle for the $20k total reduction.
Now, why I haven't written the check yet is because I'm not looking to seal the deal until December as I have a Tundra 5.7L which I'm selling in a seperate transaction in January after a family friend returns from borrowing it. No need to be paying insurance and road tax for both while waiting strengthens my position. I'm willing to bet a walk-in doesn't snap it up, and have instructed a junior salesman to call me if any interest is shown. Hopefully he will. The only other nagging doubt is whether the rear axle rating is high enough. I had wanted an F-350 but at this price I can't ignore this 250. However, so long as I've taken my brave pills (bought the Toy less than a year ago, doh) then I should soon be an 08 SD owner.
By the way, the truck is a job3 '08 which has been on the lot 6months. MSRP of 53k but has bed liner and alarm totaling $54k MSRP.
I will certainly have no problem faxing you the sales invoice upon completion of the deal.
I bought a 97 Ford Explorer from Leif Johnson (in 1997), it was a very good dealership to work with. It took longer for the make ready department to get the vehicle ready than the negotiations. My father in law went to high school with the Service Manager so he told us to ask for a specific person. Back then I had a print out from Edmunds showing List and Cost for the vehicle and every option. I added up the cost for everything that was on it, subtracted $1000 and this was going to be my starting point, the salesmen came to the table with the first round of numbers, it was $1000 more than my price, I told him my price he picked up the phone called someone (assuming the Sales Manager) and told him my number they dropped another $500 and the deal was done, along with 1.9% financing. It took maybe 15 minutes.

I will agree these are not ordinary times. In my opininon you probably wont be able to get them much lower. I think the economy is starting to level off a little, cost of diesel has drop over $1.50 a gallon and some of the dealers I have spoken to have said sales of super duty are starting to pick up again (at least here in Texas).
Assuming you cant get them any lower my numbers of 5K below invoice were based on you already at 34K not 37K, so now your at 2K below invoice. Then the Dealer added bedliner and alarm are marked up about $750 so really your current deal is about $1250 below invoice. I can see a dealer who cant move his big trucks making this deal especially if they think you will buy some type of insurance, extended service plan or protection options which have huge markups.
Waiting until december is a risk especially if they start moving some trucks and dont extend the rebate offers past their current expiration of 11/18. Good luck with your negotiations.
-- this is in the Sacto area of Norcal btw...Of course now that all my investments have tanked with the rest of this... I'm better off that the deal didn't go down.
The right deal will come along if you are in the market for it...

Dan- I will. I'm determined to get that nice clean headline figure of $20k off. Exciting news about the F450, sounds like you're very close to getting it for that stellar price too. The only problem with the current vehicle market is prices are so darn tempting that it's the kid in the sweet shop effect. Well, I guess we're all big kids at heart. Best of luck your investments pick up, I'm sure the storm will pass.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
so thats my .02 cents. so the deals are out there but i dont see anyone getting 37000 out the door i dont see any dealership eating the taxs and stuff.
also i forgot my linex for 400 so add 400 dollars to the total i have above.
Regardless, the new SDs are great trucks, both to look at and to work with with. It's also a good time to be shopping for heavy duty trucks.
Congrats on your rig and post pics when you get a chance.
I'm wondering if they're trying to meet their numbers by end of this year so anything goes. Then they start with a new slate for fiscal '09, therefore they won't be as eager to sell near cost until end of '09.
I also hear they're shutting down SD production until February, so there won't be many '09s for a while longer.
