How many pack rats do we have here??

This thread is for those of us that just cant seem to throw anything out let me explain.
Every time i do a plug change i put the old ones in maxwell house coffee can. and the wires... well i wrap them up neatly and put duct tape around the center and label them as to what they came from.
same goes for coils, distributor parts etc...
the other day im cleaning my shop out and my wife was admiring how clean and organized my shop was. after patting me on the back for a job well done she grabs up my beloved coffee can and wire sets and heads for the dump trailer..... Now i allready through all the junk out and she wants to add my good junk to the pile. I made my appeal as to why the importance of these hardly used plugs need to stay and wires too. My answer was one never knows when your gonna need a spare plug or wire.
her answer ..they sell new ones every day!
so why do us men folk save all this used stuff and then gaurd it with our lives?? Must be hereditary!!

lets hear some of the crazy stuff you guys save this way we can tell our wives we are not alone!

LOL, you sound like me, but every time I throw something out I need it the following week..

I cant count the number of projects I have resurrected with my spare parts, and my neighbours depend on them... P

Well Ill tell you I got a 302 in my Mustang, and I have come across parts here and there, now I have 2 sets of stock heads, 3 radiators, a spare transmission, a complete parts part almost completely stripped in the drive. I got a crazy notion to keep all of this junk around. I got too many sets of anything to ever use. So why keep them? I dont know. Havent found the answer to that question. LoL.

Well I was vindicated for my collecting "stuff". Just the other day I had a piece of rather important equipment go down at work . Well low and behold the last time we did routine maintenance I kept the old stuff and viola a few minutes of parts changing and we where back in business. Besides if you keep it long enough it develops antique status and is worth more.

I have a couple trucks and for whatever reason we keep accumulating tires. Now don't get me wrong.. my pool table is unusable because of all the crap on it.. but tires seems to be the one thing we can get rid of.. and the rims too.. we have 5 set of tires, all on rims, and 2 extra set of rims and just crap everywhere.

I had a funeral procession at my house about 2 months ago. For the last year, I've been finishing the basement, which meant everything in the basement got pushed to the garage. When I finally started moving things back downstairs, I decided it was time to do a full fledge reset and clear any piece or part I would never use again because I knew I would just buy a new piece anyway...

Nevermind the 3 sets of tires on rims and the two sets of just rubber - I had almost every piece besides the body to build another Explorer. Then came the Ranger parts, Escape parts, Mustang parts, fiberglassed parts, previous stereo designs and boxes, 24 stock speakers, 6 stock head units, numerous other pieces that I don't know where they came from, plugs, wires, etc, etc.

I loaded up all the regular parts for a trip to the junkyard and sold to them. Next, I sold most of the engine related 'stuff' (302 engine, tranny, misc parts) through the local Mustang crowd. I finally gave in and threw away all the plugs, wires, and other repair parts that 'might be handy sometime'...

After 2 weeks of digging up good memories and relishing in the past of all the fun we shared together, I had $4,326.00 and room to start over. My wife was astonished to find I kept only 4 Rubbermaid totes of parts, the hood I am working on for the Explorer, 3 of the longest plug wires - 1 for each vehicle, the stock radios for the cars we still have, and enough of the stock speakers to make a 7.1 surround setup for the garage.

She was also happy with the $1282.00 I made also...

It is astonishing how clean and bare the garage looks. I feel empty from cleaning out, but also am relieved at the same time. Even though many of my 'projects' are gone, I'm actually glad to get a lot of it out of the way.

The only downside is my wfe thinks she now has room to put some of her stuff.... I don't think so....
