Axel Shaft Question

Are the axle shafts on these trucks a solid chunk of steel? I had one out once to replace a seal - and it sure felt like it!

Also - does anyone know what kind of steel these shafts are? I would guess heat treated high carbon steel, because low carbon steels would tend to flex too much and fatigue over time. Does anyone know for sure? (4130?)

It solid axle shift. I think it could be heat treated high carbon steel. I am not sure if I am correct.

What axle you talk? 8.8 or 10.25 or dana 60?

4340 is a common steel for axle shafts, but I really don't know what Ford used.
