what's a after run pump for ??

my 87 f150 4x4 auto, 4.9 engine in the chilton book it says a 4.9 has a after run pump that the blower looking thing on the pass side of fender well? the hoses are gone on it. what the heck is it for? just to the left of it is a can looking thing for a alum flex hose there gone also along with the hose from air pump pump seems to still work with engine running can feel blast of air coming out the tube in the back of it the hose from that go to a pipe with some kind of valve looking thing along side of pass side of valve cover. why people remove this stuff is beyond me. like they changed motors in this truck once the dumb asses did not put back one hose for the air conditioner i'm sure even with a new hose and a recharge it will never work again with all the dirt and other crud that's in the open areas. about the 5 th truck i bought where the air was butchered up or missing half of it. oh well so back to hose routing any one have some pic. of where the hoses go ? it shows vacuum hose routing but nothing with out vacuum going to it.

That is just crazy sounding. Wonder if its a way to help cool down the engine coolant after the truck is shutdown, but I'm sure someone here will know.

Like quick said, the injector cooling fan was only used for a couple years ('87 to '89, I think), so either Ford decided the fan didn't work, or it was too expensive to continue to use it. The fan in my '89 has never worked since I bought the truck in '01, and I've never had a problem, so I've never seen the sense in trying to fix it...it's one of the happiest trucks I've owned! BTW...my brother has a '91 4.9L, and it didn't come with an injector cooling fan at all.

I think Ford upped the fuel pressure on the six cylinders about the same time they eliminated the injector blower fan.
