i have a 01 f350 w 7.3 two weeks ago it stopped the high idle when cold and would skip untill it warmed up. the ses light would go out when it warmed up. now the ses light is on and it skips all the time. I replaced the exhaust backpresure valve sensor and it was no help. I cleaned the sensor tube with out taking it off. I sprayed brake cleaner down the tube then I blew it out with compressed air. I was afraid it would break if I unhooked it from the manifold. any ideas?
I wouldn't make a habit of spraying brake cleaner down into the manifold.
The best thing to do is to get the codes read. The EBP & IAT are both part of the high idle, but I don't think they're the issue with the truck skipping. How old is the engine oil and is it full?
I read more info on this problem on the forum and found out I will have to get someone with the proper equipment to read the codes. Found a diesel mech that works at a dealer and has a shop at home. I will get him to read the codes. the engine has about 100k on it. it is a rebuilt unit from ford that was installed by the dealer before I bought the truck. the truck is aproaching 250k. This is the first real problem I have had other than I am on my second trans. 6 speed. the oil has about 3k on it. I also picked up an ohm meter I thought I would test the wire harness that runs into the valve covers. seemed easy and it is something I can do myself. It is fustrating not to be able to read the codes and deal with the problem myself.
Here is the info on ohming your 9 pin connector near the top of valve cover...
GGIICIIGG
G = Glow Plug
I = Injector +
C = Injector -
Ohms between the G and block Ground should be 0.1 - 2.0 ohms.
Ohms between the I and C one at a time if one or more is > 5 ohms, it will point to the which gasket connector is open and not making connection.. or UVC harness being shorted.

thanks for the info. this is a great site. I will check it this week. I got sidetracked with my sons car. tooper with a bad head gasket. I will let you know what the values are.
