Plant Question....

I'm trying to keep a Christmas Cactus alive that was Nancy's best plant.
It looks like It's giving up. I mean it looks like it's said to hell with it.
I can't grow Refrigerator mold....
I need to keep this plant alive if anyone could help.

I'm not big on plants, but it may need to be replanted in a bigger pot for some growing room..

It might need to go to a bigger pot. Or a bit of plant food.
If you do transplant it, be sure you use a well drained potting soil - you can get special soil for cactus and succulents at one of the home centers.

Whatever you do, don't over water it. Wait for the soil to dry completely before you water it again. In my experience, the easiest way to kill a cactus is to drown it.

Is it wilted???
Is the soil moldy???
Is it shriveled???
Is it discolored???
Is it flaking off at the base of each "leaf"???
We need more information to make a complete diagnosis!!!

I cant save any plant. I would just go online and look at christmas cactus plant troubleshooting website and you shoudl have your answer.
I wish I could be of more help as too want to see your catus live. But I walk thru a garden center and all the plants feign death so I wont buy them as thye know their demise should they come home with me.
Let us know how it goes.

2nd on letting it dry out between waterings.
If it stays too moist it will start to rot down at the root.

Steve has good points,
Perhaps it needs some plant food? Are the leaves loosing their dark green color?
How long has it been in the same pot? They can be separated into more than one plant.

With shorter days and cooler temps it should be budding out all over about now.

I love Christmas Cactus, they're hardier than anything this side of a spider plant...

Carl, here's a site to check out.

Fernlea Flowers - Christmas Cactus

I have a Umbrella plant that my aunt bought for my grandmother back in 1972.
I managed to save it by replanting it into a larger pot.

And ArdWrknTrk, as it goes for those Spider plants, they are very hardy.
I have one that is growing those spider things all over and are planting
themselves in the other potted plants. It's freaky.

Good luck Carl.

if it has some flower buds feed it a higher ration of potasium, phosphates vs. nitrogen. Done over feed it, or over water it like mentioned above. Remove anything that looks dead. i dont know if you have bbeen feeding it or not, but water alone wouldnt cut it( i think) i have a green thumb but its towards other things not cactus's

if you transplant it, make sure you put those little white porus pebbles in to help with the air-ration, cactusus grow in sandy conditions, so its easy for the roots to move about, a compact soil would make it hard for the feeder roots to move about, to make the plant thrive/get bigger

get some fox farm products (organic) they have some of the best products in the industry
