2.5" or 3"

I have an 89 with 460. I am going in tomorrow to get a new exhaust from cat back and there is a big diff in price between the two. Will I be able to really tell any performance diff in either accelleration or mpg between the two? I am not after sound as I like it mellow so just from an actual performance stand point any real noticible differences. thanks

With a 460, I'd go with 3". a 2.5" might enhance bottom end slightly, but it would really impair your mid-range and top end power, which is what you would use for passing.

With the right muffler, you can still keep it pretty quiet.

They said the imco 7700 series (I called imco and they said it was flow master 40 copy) would work well.

I went with 3" and a Cherry bomb extreme. Nice low mellow sound. The muffler guy first set it up with a 3" straight pipe off the cat. and it was way too loud and raspy for my taste. He set it up with the flow pro 40 series, glass pack and Cherry bomb the Cherry bomb sound best to my ears.

It won't let me edit for some reason but I meant I got the Elite part #7503 not the extreme.

So long as you have the factory cat in place, you should find almost any muffler is mellow. I would avoid Imco, the quality control is not very good. Thats why brand names stuff costs more.

I would go 3 inch on your 460. I have always liked Flowmaster. I have heard a few trucks with Cherry Bomb Extreme and Elite. I really like them too.

Flow Pro is crap too for anyone else reading.
