Today while driving to work my truck felt like it was surging, I could here the turbo whistle vary but didn't notice any rise or drop in my rpm's. Is this a symptom of a bad EGR? or would it be most likley related to the turbo itself?
Are both of these items coverd under the engine and emissions warranty?

The VGT solenoid could cause the surge, and yes, as part of the turbocharger assembly it's covered under the 5/100 warranty.
take it in and have it checked out. $100.00 that is, if you still have any warranty remaining...

Did you take your Truck in. What did they say? Just wondering what happened. I have the same sort of deal happening as well now.
I haven't taken it in yet but it hasn't done it since I refueled. I'm wondering about the possibility of bad diesel or possibly my fuel cap not being properly seated. I will keep ear and eye on it. If it does it anymore I will be taking it in as I still have 30k and 1 year of engine warranty.
...or possibly my fuel cap not being properly seated.
Not a chance...
I didn't look back in the thread. Did you pull any codes? If not, do it. You may be only postponing the inevitable, and perhaps allowing more harm to come. Better to be proactive than reactive.
Well the problems back and since I am having the fuel filters done on Saturday 11/15 i'l have them run a diagnostics on it also. It really feels like it may be related to the turbo or the injectors. I was hoping it was something simple, maybe just a dirty injector. I bought some cleaner and it hasn't helped. I'm leaving in a week for an 8 day elk hunt so I gotta get it fixed ASAP.
It hasn't thrown any codes at all. Any chance that this is from watered down diesel? I did have my Water in Diesel light come on about 2 weeks ago so I drained it. I guess we'll find out.
Did they find any codes? My dealer has been backed up like crazy and it was a least a week before they could look.. Finally found a different dealer that took apointments. My truck goes in tomorrow am for this same problem. To add to it I came back from a deer hunt and going up a hill trying to maintain highway speed up a hill. No chance. It couldn't maintain the speed and popped off the cruise control after it geared down and the engine was surging like crazy. It has very poor acceleration. I will post my results from the dealer here in the next few days.
My problem identified.. VGT Sensor gone bad. Being replaced under warranty. $100.
Fuel Pump low pressure to hardly any. Fuel pump needs replacement. To get the extended warrenty for the fuel pump. Lower fuel filter needs to be replaced as well at the same time. $1100 for parts and installation. Would explain the poor acceleration and trying to even maintain highway speed up a hill. Only had this truck a month now and am sinking $1200.

Canadian $'s? How much is that in US $'s? And are you talking about the fuel pump in the tank, or the HFCM?
The surging was realted to the VGT unit. As a added note. I was hearing some wining coming from under the seat the last couple days. I believe that is where the general location of the HFCM unit is. Well I guess it will be fixed. I am intested to know what happens with the other guys surging issue here as well.
