I know there are many opinions on this but I'm looking for a leveling kit that I can install myself that doesn't require serious tools and is not a lot of $$. I'm talking weekend warrior project here. What would be the best, add-a-leaf, shackle, blocks etc.
I do not know what brand may better, but from my experience removing and replacing a shackle is much easier than springs. Both are pretty easy, shackles just seem to be quicker to do. Also, ride is less affected by shackles than by an added or more arched spring. IMO, blocks on the front axle are generally a no-no. Caster shims, if needed, are usually all you want under the front springs.
Most leveling kits are kind of expensive, but I was able to find a 2.7" front end leveling kit with mini spring packs, non welded. If you go the mini spring pack route, do not get welded packs. I got mine from performance sales, and they ran $165 free shipping when i bought them. I have no tools with me, but install seems really pretty easy, just remember to red loc tite them. I have not installed the kit yet...

Why do you say to get the non welded spring packs?
Welding causes the steel to lose its temper, causing inconsistencies in strength and if the weld isn't uniform, the pack could crack. Since the spring pack is 4 pieces of long then short pieces of tempered steel, if you weld each plate together, you lose the temper along the entire pack... If you do find a non welded pack, make sure it comes with u bolts and nuts because the old ones will be too short
