Question Transfer case stuck in LOW

Hi I was wondering what could cause a transfer case to get STUCK in
low gear with the hubs out. If a guy was to disconnect front driveshaft
would it be driveable? This is in a 90 F-250 6.9L I think manual tranny.
(i have not seen it yet) But the guy said it runs really well. for 600.00
would you get this??????? Manual hubs by the way.

for $600 heck ya the motor is worth that worse case scenario ya throw in a transfer case from a junk yard or rebuild it and away you go.that is well worth the money.people buy cell phones for more than that.i would jump on that,of course try to talk him down though haha.

It might be a case of operator error, I'm embarrassed to say it was in my case. The shifter says, right on the top PUSH DOWN! I didn't SEE that until someone pointed it out to my stupid @$$.
You have to push the shifter handle down to shift the x-case and it's still kind of a wrestling match.
Go look at it and give it a try. The truck will probably need to be running to do it though. Try to do it with out him seeing you or you might just run the price up. The way I look at it you've done your homework and learned how to fix it so you should reap the rewards.
That's assuming this is the problem of course.

By the way the BW 1356 in my '90 gasser shifts alot easier than the one in my '94 IDI turbo or the '97 Powerstroke. Wierd!

Could be as simple as the shift linkage frozen. However to answer your question, driving it would be no problem with the front shaft removed.

If the hubs are unlocked you dont need to remove the front driveline, if it drives, try backing up while pushing the transfer case lever towards another position, then stop and go forward while trying this. do this slowly in both directions, shift from whatever position the transmission is in to neutral and back while moving(automatic) or try engaging/disengaging clutch.........Low range is about 2.6 or 2.7 to 1 reduction,so if you cant get it out of low,you are going to be really limited in speed.........
