My 2000 powerstroke misses after sitting a few days

If I drive it everyday, no problem. every other day,it misses a little after I leave the driveway but clears up after I get on it a little. Last week, I let it sit for four days. Like to have never got it to start. Any ideas??? I am not too sharp on Diesels.

I'll bet its your glow plugs. Possibly relay. Try plugging the truck in for a few hours next time you let it sit for a few days. THen start it.

Yep. the other day, after it sat for several days, i did it numerous times. it finally started and loped till it smoothed out some. it's like the longer it sits, the less cyliners it fires on. after acceleration, you can feel it come alive. never any trouble after the inital missing.

Use a multimeter to check your glow plugs. Use the ohm reading. It should be somewhere in the range of .6-1.6 ohms. I believe thats the range anyway. But you will get the picture. None should read extremly high numbers or 0.

The wiring harness to check them is right on top of the valve cover. Take that off. The pins inside the harness go as such... GG II C II GG. G=glow plug, I= Injector, c=common ground. Test the pin to a good ground.

You will find if you havhe a bad one.

Another easy test for the glow plug relay is to jump the big terminals with a screwdriver for 30 seconds and then hit the starter.

Check your battery voltage after it sits a couple of days. Sounds like dieing batteries to me.

Like (clux) said, sounds like batt. Glow plugs would give you a problem everyday, trying to start it! Also maybe your hpop is leaking down? I replaced my batt. and GPR not to long ago, starts like new again!

Sounds like it could be the injector o-rings too. Does it smoke when you get on it before it clears up? Just a guess.

I agree with Zack. I had a similar issue and replaced the injectors.

Batteries seem fine. Spins the engine like a sewing machine.

How can you tell if it is leaking down????? The other day after I almost never got it started, the longer I tried, the more cylinders that semed to fire. so, if the HPOP leaks down, the injectors don't function properly? Is there a sight window for the hpop???Seems like in my memory there is.

No sight window. You just remove the allen bolt on top and check it that way. It should be about 3/4 of an inch from the top.
