While you have the valve covers off re-torque the rocker arm pedastals and the injector hold downs. Those who have done this have found quite a few loose bolts.
great suggestion of checking and also using the tube. I have never done this before, but it looks like it is going to be a pain in the butt to do this. Anything that helps will be a welcome change.

Nah...its a pretty straight forward job. Just be sure to soak up all the oil around the glow plug holes so as to not get oil seepage in there, also, definately use a piece of tubing to remove the glow plugs(the socket gets stuck if you dont),but its not that bad of a job.
Schlepprock
Not a difficult job, just time consuming. There are 3 VC bolts on the passenger side I found easier to get to through the wheel well using a box end wrench. But at that time I didn't have wobble extensions.
Thanks for posting this, I had checked mine with AE and it said they were good, but this cold snap has proven diffrent. I ohmed mine and found the front & back on both sides are bad. Thanks for all the good info.
I have bought the tube and glowplugs (Motorcraft zd-11's $18.99 @ O'reily's), which are much more expensive now, and have already cleared the way for the driver side. How do you get to the rear bolt loose? It is darn near impossible to get to.

Chris, I had to cut some of the aluminum covered fire protection off of the firewall to get to the back bolts, reinstalled it with some aluminum foil tape.
Chris and I ahve been going back and forth with PM's on his glow plugs. Thanks for all the additional input from everyone. I also suggested he change his GPR whereas he had many GP's that were not working. This way the whole system is "new"
Dont go to the dealer to get plugs.. I had to go there to get one, as the tip was bent up against the head deck surface from the failure and i couldn't get it out-- $27.99! (for one!)

I used a short wobble extension for the hard to reach bolts.

WOW, Why would AE say good and actual be "bad"
