I am new to 6.9l diesel ownership and the forum. Although I am not entirely new to a diesel. I have owned several over the years.
Without much research I ran out and bought a 1983 F250 6.9. After I had owned it a week or so, I found this forum (which is very cool) and read where the 83 is not such a good year (block heater). Living in a area where the winters can at times get very cold, is there an after market option for a block heater?
My next question is, this truck seems to blow an obscene amount of smoke. It is not black like unused fuel, it seems more blue like oil. It smells like diesel, and not at all like coolant.
Is there a way to check to see if it is oil burning, other than checking the dip stick from time to time? How about a way to check the head gaskets just in case?
the block heaters work fine , we never had any issues with them and i have worked in the dealership before we started selling the diesels , mine by the way is 20 years old now and still works fine , they do require replacing the power cord from time to time due to wear and tear and insulation breaking off
