what can i do to get better traction off road my trucks a 2x4 everytime i need to do offroad i usually get stuck...someone told me to put weights on the back tires..????any ideas for better traction?
they will help the most, as well as putting in a locker, more agressive tires, a few hundred pounds of weight. i used to own a chebby that would go alot of places i would never expect a two wheel drive truck to go and all i had to do was put 500 pounds in the back.
also i donno if you want to do this or not... convert to 4x4. there are alot of threads here on this website that talk about the conversion, it is something you can look into
Depending on how aggressive you are off road, a limited slip rear would be the choice if you do a lot of street driving.

I used to drive my 'Yota off road, with a pair of Cleveland heads between the tailgate and wheelwells! I kinda wish I hadn't, they turned out to be kinda rare heads.......
the cheapest traction device would be a mini spool. i got mine for 15 bucks on ebay and it is worth every penny.

35x15.5x15 super swamper TSL/SX
mini-spooled 9" rear end
390 w/ cam,headers,
and 4 barrell edelbrock
a good set of aggressive tires would be the first thing i would do, i have 2 wheel drive and i dont get stuck much unless i try to go somewhere ridiculously muddy
Spool isn't a good idea unless it's a 100% off road truck in my opinion.

spools make the tires chirp around hard turns and cause more tire wear but in my oppinion, it is well worth the added traction. i kinda like the looks i get when i turn and my tires chirp. with my spool in my rear end i can do stuff in 2 wheel drive that i had trouble with in 4 hi. its cool seein dual rooster tails of mud go flyin out the back of the truck.

OR if your cheap just weld it, very cheap and effective method for a locker. And also stronger than a mini spool if you weld the side gears to the carrier.
