I'm still troubleshooting my power problems. Do these marks look off and could the IP have slipped. My dad, the original truck owner, can't remember ever having the timing adjusted. The marks obviously don't match the factory settings.
You can't realy tell without double checking with a timing meter. However just by the looks of the photo I would say the pump is a little advanced. Stock from the factory the marks are lined up with each other. If the mark on the Injection pump is toward the pasenger side then the timing is advanced, if toward the driver side it is retarded.
They are on the top side of the engine where the injector pump and timing gear housing meet. I didn't see them until I was troubleshooting and cleaned the spot.
I sucks being a rookie at working on a truck but I have to figure it out sometime.
Jaysen, leave the pump where it is now - that extra timing bump actually helps our trucks as they were never designed for that crappy ULSD we're feeding them now, and apparently there's something about the way ULSD burns that is different from the old stuff. You should see my IP, thing is tilted to the passenger side big time, yet I got plenty power plus some pretty darn good fuel economy. Also, if pump was to slip, it would be in the opposite direction, and that you would know right away.
