Epedition 2008 vs. 2009
Currently I own a 2000 Eddie Baurer 4x4 with the 5.4L engine. It is a 4x4 with trailer tow. For the last several years, I made several trips towing a trailer that has a dry weight of 6,000#'s. I have always felt that my Expy was maxed out, particularly when going up moderate hills when the engine would be at 4000 rpm's.
Recently I ordered a new travel trailer which has come in a bit heavier than I anticipated. The dry weight is 7200. I am concerned that I will have difficulty towing it with my 2000 Expy.
I have been looking at the 2008 and 2009 Limiteds. I am confident that either of these will be capable of towing my new trailer, but am wondering if anyone knows if one is more economical on gas than the other. Towing my present trailer with the 2000 I averaged 7 to 8 mpg. The dealers are also telling me that they will sell either at invoice minus the cash incentives. Is it possible to do any better on the price?
Any advice would be a big help. Thank you.

Hi - what I am going to say isn't anything you probably haven't thought of, but want to offer the idea. Since your loaded weight will be 8-9000 pounds, with you stuff how about a used 7.3 Diesel of any kind - quad cab, crew cab etc? While Diesel is still high, could mean a good deal for the right truck - or an Excursion? I know they are big - just offering a different idea for the higher weight.

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I have considered a used 7.3 and checked into one for sale at a reasonable cost. It was a crew cab, but I don't think I could get comfortable in a pick up. Strickly a SUV person. I think I am going to end up buying a new Expy, although I hadn't planned on such an expentiture at this time.
