GM Chrysler Merger

I see now that GM and Chrysler are in midst of some "serious talking" now about a merger that many are saying now is a "Done Deal". (Working out details to take to govt for a loan) I see us wonderful taxpayers get to loan the $7-$10 Billion to make the merger happen. Oh joy.

Ford will be the last one standing. GM/Chrysler is insane. GM wants the cash and Ceribus wants out of the car business. Problem is that GM is burning through a billion a month with no end in sight. This will only distract them from fixing the real problems and delay Chapter 11 for a year or two. Wagner, Henderson, Lutz and the rest will still be in charge. The bailout should, and wont, include a condition of top management change to competent outsiders (ala Alan and Ford) What a cluster!

I agree. This money may keep them afloat until around 2010. Greed and poor business practices keep being rewarded.

You guys are regurgitating information from the news.

The problem still remains. Will Ford, GM, and Chrysler be able to build vehicles that the mass will "want" to buy?

There is definatley a market for the vehicles Ford, GM and Chrysler sell IF they can keep up with the other manufacturers offerings. I just don't feel it should be up to the US goverment or I should say taxpayers to loan money to a company thats managed their company poorly. If my small business is in trouble, there is no handout or loan there for me. Its up to me to figure it out or go bust.

I really hate to see my Favorite and most hated AMerican auto co.s merge, but this could possibly be bad for Ford. GM will have rights to the Cummins for their trucks, this could spell disaster for Ford diesels IMO.

What makes you assume GM would want the Cummins after investing so much into the Duramax?

Anyway, this deal has been put on hold by the Bush Admin. No federal assistance...

They (Dodge) would be better off merging with Nissan that that already have deals with.
GN will kill Chrysler and then there will only be the big two

Are you sure the current Cummins 6.7 is better than the current Duramax?

They stopped building those 12-valve 5.9 Cummins a long time ago now...

The merger is off. GM is now waiting for the government to bail them out instead of acquiring Chrysler just to get it's cash. If the gov. doesn't do anything soon, GM will be bankrupt after the first of the year.

The current 6.7L Cummins is doing very well and already meets the 2010 emissions regulations.

Yes I see that all three just want their huge amounts of money. I don't forsee any of the big 3 making it if they can't come to some kind of reasonable agreement with the UAW and "Legacy" retirees regarding pension and benefits. I saw $25 billion being thrown around just for benefits.
