Alternate Fuels

Has anyone tried running Jet A, JP-5 or JP-8 in their 6.0's? I have read about Bio Diesel but havn't read anything about the above. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sounds dangerous and fool hardy to me. Your talking about 15,000 dollar engines here! Not lawn mowers.

This is why I am asking if anyone has tried or knows someone who has. For the record, Jet A, JP-5 and JP-8 is diesel that has been refined. I am aware I am not driving a "lawn mower". I have read some forums here saying they run strait Bio Diesel and havn't had any problems. I know that the diesel aircraft tow tractors and some of the other diesel line vehicles run strait JP every day. I need some more reasearch though before I put it in my 350.

50/50 jet-a/b100 in the summer jet-a free , i dont recommend straight jet-a no lubiracation but mix with bio or ashless 2 stroke oil at a ratio of 1:128 jet-a has less btu content so fuel economy will suffer but adding b-100 or 2 stroke oil will help bring numbers up and also lower your cloud point of bio if you plan to run it in colder climates...

We run straight JP8 in our Hummers all the time, there are a bunch of Hummers in the military and they seem to be OK, 5 ton trucks, the new LMTV trucks all run JP8, no additives..... If you can find it, I think you'll be just fine to run it.

The Hummer isn't a 6.0 with HEUI injection.

you might be right, I don't know, but any turbine or diesel that the military owns runs on JP8.....I don't know but I tend to believe that since JP8 is refined to a higher grade than diesel that it would OK, and you base your position on?

When I was in Iraq they told us to add 1 qt of tranny fluid to every 5 gal fuel during the summer months. What was the deal with that?

Infantry. I was in Fallujah with the 82nd airborne back in late 03 early 04

Exactly I was in an 81mm mortar platoon spent most of the time as the platoon SGTs driver. But we did not act like a mortar platoon we spent most of our time as an AT section..

I just reminder asking one of the mechanics for some Tranny fluid latter in oct and he said you don't have to run that stuff any more it is not as hot.. maybe they frigged they did not need to run it that was real early in the war so i am sure many things have changed and been learned.

we were on the road every day, and JP8 runs a hummer fine. most of the civi contractors had 1 ton 6.0s. but that don't mean i'd run the stuff. no lubricity in it, and you gotta pay any repair bills.

the turbo 6.5 is probably just a little less sensitive to fuels, and all our 998's didn't like JP8 when we shipped 'em down after they'd had a steady died of civi #2. lotsa plugged fuel filters in the first couple of months. cleans out a lot of gunk.

roper - why would you bother running jet-a, or JP anyway? it available free or something?
