engine heat gauge acted strange
got on the highway this morning about 1 mi from my house. left house with cold engine. there's a slight hill where i get on and after i got about 1/4 mi i noticed the needle on the gauge was pegged on hot and the idiot light was also on. just as i started to pull over i heard a click and the light went off and the needle returned to the normal range. after that no more problems, could there be some kind of relay? this is the first time the needle ever moved past normal.
Kinda sounds like the thermostat stuck closed for a bit longer than it should have.
When we notice a overheating condition happening, we can help by turning the heat control temp **** to the Max heat setting & the fan speed to Max & the heater will help get the excess heat out of the engine & maybe prevent a boil over, or head warp.
Right now without any more info, I'd begin by checking the above list of things, before replacing things like the thermostat & radiator cap, ect.
Let us know what you find.
