I have a 2004 F-250 4x4. Since the weather has cooled off when I crank the truck in the morning it produces fumes. I have to open all windows because cab is full of fumes. It smells like raw diesel and exhaust. This only happens when truck and weather is cold. After truck warms up it is ok. Is there a seal somewhere that is bad? If so is it something I can fix myself ? Thanks for any help.
I would like to know also. Mine is and 07 and is doing the same thing. I looked around this morning for evidence of an exhaust leak and didnt find one. This evening I will be going under neath to look.
Guys... I have experienced the samething when it gets cold, may or may not be related to yours..... In the Superduty section I have this going right now.(Checkout the link below) I have a major fuel leak when it is cold out in the morning and I first start it up. Due to it being cold I turn on the the heater and it pulls the diesel fume leak into the cab. Mine is leaking fuel when cold coming from above the starter. I am sure it is the fuel inlet valve on the passenger head(Which has copper gaskets) cause once it is warm it stops. Needs to drop below -5 oC before it will leak in the morning. I have taken it to the dealer but it got warm here again and now it won't leak. Never the less they sent me packing and I will be going back once cold again or the engine fire. What ever comes first I guess. They noted it looked like a leak from somewhere..... Does your guys smell like Raw fuel or burned fuel? Mine is raw. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...nger-side.html
Since they can't fix the issue until they see the fuel leak. Shop foreman words @ the dealer. And it won't leak until it is cold. I get the raw fume smell in the cab in the morning if cold -5oC and the heater is on. As I already said, it hasn't been cold here again to leak. But it will. Catch 22 for me........
Mine dont smell like raw fuel. It does smell like exhaust. I went under neath it last night and didnt see any evidence of an exhaust leak or cracked manifold or pipe. On top of the EGR cooler I do see something like black droplets, like when raw fuel goes thru the exhaust and washes it out. But for the life of me cant figure out where it is coming from. By the placement of it, it would have to come out of the down pipe at the turbo connection. But like I said there isnt any evidence of a leak.

That sounds like what my dads going through on his EX, Do you hear a louder than normal whistle/whine noise too?
Yes there is a louder whistling noise when under a load. I haven't found anything leaking on ground. The temp here in the mornings is 35-45 degrees. I'm afraid for my kids to get in truck to go to school because I believe these fumes are harmful .
