5 Inch Exhaust System

I have been tossing around the idea of putting on a 5 in ex system! They sell it as a straight threw sys or I can add a straight threw muffler! Question is how loud would the no muffler sys be vs muffler! I am pulling a 34 ft fiver and I feel BigRed could use all the help she can! Dont mind a nice mellow drone but I am getting to old for that loud stuff! Had enough when I was racing!!! Any ideas would be be appreciated!!

The 5" straight pipe will be loud under heavy throttle.

Run a muffler if you don't want loud.

Just get the muffler. They're straight though, so there's little if any performance difference. You can always put in a piece of straight pipe later if you want to try it without the muffler. So what's got you convinced to go with the 5"? There is a difference in sound, but no real performance gains until you're looking at 500+ HP. But the 4" systems are a bit easier to install. Some guys run into clearance issues with the 5", just so you know. I love my SS 4", but I think I'll be trying out the straight pipe just for fun. As it is now, no drone -- I've been on several long drives with it. If the straight pipe gives me drone, the muffler goes back on.

5in is really just for looks and sound like Joe said, no extra perfomance. I had a plain straight pipe on my truck and I couldn't take it anymore and added a hog muffler onto my custom 4in exhaust.

go with the 5 inch, with a muffler. That is what i have...sounds sweet but not too loud. I didnt have any problems putting my exhaust in, the bends at the end over the rear axle can be confusing..but not that bad. Took me about and hour to install with an extra set of hands helping me.

i have a 5" straight piped (no muffler) and its extremely loud under throttle. Im used to it, but you should probably go 4" with a muffler. Same performance gain + less decibels.

I have a 5" and love it.
I pull a trailer and found that the straight through muffler was not adequite, there was a lot of droning coming into the cab of the truck that got real annoying on a long drive.
I ended up putting a 10" diameter semi-truck muffler on it and that quieted it down to where it is factory exhaust quiet while pulling the trailer.

I do get tired of cleaning the soot off of the truck if I let it get rained on, but at least I still look cool.

Hey guys thanks for the input!! I am going with the muffler. Should be here Mon or Tues. I hope the install goes well. Hope the hookup to the turbo is as easy as it looks? Never did one of those before! I have installed exhaust sys before but never 5 inchs! Sounds like doing duct work in my house!! Well wish me luck!!! Thanks again!!
