88 ranger shifter...

ok, so i was tryin to figure out why my ranger wouldnt come out of park the other day... so i started to take the shifter apart so i could push the tab underneath just to get around till i fix it... well i took the top handle off of the shifter and there is that small piece of plastic that goes down it and pushes the tab down... well i noticed it seem to sit down kinda far... and i pulled up on it and it came out and it seems as if its broke just by the bend in the handle.... is it supposed to be like this? dont think it is and where can i get a fix for this?? dont wanna keep pushin the tab for ever...

I would try a junkyard for a truck that old. The ones from a bronco II will work as well.
