I'm in need of a new parking brake assembly. Since my cables were so rotten i just cut them out. My truck is a 78 Shortbed 4x4, i just got done looking at NPD for the replacement and found alot more gear than i had to begin with. My set up looked pretty simple, 0ne cable from the pedal that cable was attached to a cross member on the frame and went to a threaded rod with the TEE mounted to that. From the TEE the right and left cable branched off.
Looks like the replacement has a lever arm and an equalizer cable? Anyone replaced the cables completely and ran into a similar problem?
Hey duke78 I replaced my cables with cables from the local carquest store. I got the rest of the parts from salvage yard ie the threaded rod and bar and equilizer. I believe any local parts house could get the cables. My set up is just like you described in the first paragraph. hope this helps chuck
Fits: 1976/79 F100/150 2WD & 4WD 116" Wheelbase.

There's a long spring attached to the equalizer lever, an adjustment rod that fits between the equalizer lever and the actual equalizer itself, plus additional parts.
You need to see the actual parts catalog illustration of the parking brake system.

There's no charge for this service. Green Sales has these three cables, but you don't have to buy them if you don't want to.
I'm using the parts catalog on microfiche. I don't know of another member that has this parts catalog and can scan and post the illustration.
