How many of you have taken off your grill's? If you have'nt, I suggest you do.
You need to clean out behind there in order to preserve your core support.
If you need core supports for the 61-64 let me know. If you have a 65-66 I have one that needs a little work. Or you can modify a 61-64 to make it work.
But you need to remove your grills and clean behind there.
Having a good running truck is what we want, but if your core supports are holding dirt, mud, moisture of any kind, you'll need to get that fixed.
Robert, thanks for the 'heads-up'. Used a pressure washer in the past, about 2-3 years ago decided to replace the radiator support mounts and found there was still a lot of debris the pressure washer did'nt get, especially between grille and lower valance, and support mount cavities. Also, removed a few grilles and thru trial and error found it's less labor intensive by removing the entire front clip as a unit, that's the upper and lower valance, center bracket, etc.
another HUGE crap trap is the lower cross bar...its open at either end which can be seen inside each wheelwell at the support mount area where you see a large area where on the front of the support it is angled about 45 degrees or so...my perfect support I had took me a week and alot of careful tapping/banging on its end to get all the crap out of the center bar area...Its now resting under the bed...LOL...one advantage of being single....nobody to gripe about having more parts and tools inside then furniture and household stuff...

Seem to recall salvaging couple tools thought I lost from that cavity.
Thanks for the post Gangster; I'm looking at a 65 F600 radaitor support in local srap yard; I started a post (recently) to see if it was the same as my 64 model; looks to be; no replies; my recent purchase 64 F100 is in need of a new radiator support & cab mounts. Once I finish my 78 model its next on the to do list; for now its sits in the garage waiting to be restored. I crank it every couple weeks and drive it around the block.
You know, I spend a lot of time at wrecking yards learning how to dismantel these beauties. While I don't like seeing them there, it does allow me the oppurtunity to know these trucks better. I know a lot of guy's/gals here spend time fixing their motors, getting period correct parts and so on. I've seen way to many trucks sitting in yards, under trees, in the fields, waiting to get fixed. By the time people get a "round-to-it" (reminder to self...Make more "round-to-it's") the core support is rotting away. As stated before, for those of you in need of 61-64 core supports send me a P.M.
Learn to dismantel the areas spoken of, a thorough cleaning, goes a long way. You'll be happy you did.
I've had every year grill from 61-66 on my truck, including one I made. I liked the way the 66 looked on my truck, so I had it chromed and it looks good. So taking a grill off is easy, patients is the key.
I hope this helps some of you guy's/gal's.
