Remote start question

I would like to add remote start to my 2001 Expedition. I know that the older silver model 1L3Z-19G364-BA and the Securilok Interface 1L3Z-19G365-AB will work but it is getting hard to find the older silver model. Will the remote start kit for the newer model expeditions work with my 2001. If so what part number do I need for just remote start and keyless entry. Thank you.

It will work I got mine installed and working with no problems.

There is a guy on ebay selling every thing you need. I made offers and got everything for just over $100 plus the shipping cost, and the shipping was fast.

Stuff you need:
eBay Motors: Ford Remote Start Systems Silver Personality Kit (item 260305550353 end time Nov-23-08 16:40:50 PST)

eBay Motors: Ford Remote Start Systems PC-32 Module (item 250314321943 end time Nov-23-08 16:40:49 PST)

eBay Motors: Ford Remote Start Systems SecuriLock Interface 99 - 04 (item 250314321959 end time Nov-23-08 16:40:51 PST)

The installation instructions are here Ford Remote Start / Wiring

If you need any help let me know.

Remote start

Thanks sf93. Will these items work for a 2001 expedition? It states in the description that they are for 2002 year. If so how hard is the install ,I tried to find the info in the link you sent and there is no data for 2001. Can you email me? Thanks in advance. Andy

It will work fine on a 2001 that is what mine is. In fact you can use the wire diagrams for the 2002 it is the exact same as a 2001 for a remote start install.

I found out after some searching that the Ford remote starters are universal, They are made by Code Alarm for Ford. The Silver unit is almost the same as the Code Alarm CA-530. If you wanted to you could take the stuff I listed for you and put it in a Honda.

As far as the install it took me about 6 hours. It was kind of a pain getting at some of the wires for the door locks, since the module is high on the drivers side firewall. But if you take the front seat out there is plenty of room to lay down and stretch out.

Remote start install

sf93, I found the wiring diagrams from the ford link. My question is are there any step by step installation instructions available for the items you mentioned? Thanks Andy

This is awesome guys. I am looking at adding the remote start to my Expy. For some reason, it feels really cold in the truck, even after 5 minutes of driving it, but that may be due to all of the leather in the truck. (I have 3rd row seating)

That sound like a plan, kinda cold out to try an install now. What brand did you go with and did the remote look like the item sf93 recomended?

Yeah, I'm all for saving money, but you have to weigh the complexity of the task.

If I did it myself, it would be me and my Dad, and his back is not up to working on cars for long periods of time anymore. (Disabled 30 year GM mechanic, specialized in Cadillacs)

87wreckerman is right, for some they may be farther ahead to have it installed professionally. I always felt anyone can do this stuff if you take your time and think about what you are going to do next. It's really no harder than putting in a good sound system.

For my self there is no good install shop close, and I like all my connections soldered, also I like to spend intimate time with my truck. Now that sounds a little weird, but I know you guys get it

How ever a remote start gets put in it is sure nice and will be enjoyed when it is below freezing.

Right?? I sure scratched my head when I opened the box and saw the wire harnesses. I also thought what did I get myself into. But once I got going it was as bad as it looked.
