Hello all
it's been awhile since I've posted. On Friday night i had my truck broke into for the 4th time in 2 years. this time it got a little rough. since there was nothing in the truck to steal, they took it out on my interior, smashing the overhead console and center console. Insurance is going to cover the damage, but i've decided to get an alarm for my truck, along with some 'Jimmi Jammers' (Vehicle Security and Theft Prevention Devices ). i know that this will not prevent them from damaging the truck while trying to enter it, but it should keep them from getting inside and having access to the truck.
So, to make a long story short, what alarm does everyone recommend? i'm not looking for any fancy like remote start or 2 way radio key fobs, but a good solid 'loud' alarm. does anyone have any luck with vipers or another brand.
I hate to hear that about your truck, it just kills me people who are just stupid and mean. I had a viper 300ESP system in my truck when I bought it, it wasn't wired up right and didn't work right so I took it out, though I believe they make a good system from what I have read around. Try doing a search on Alarm systems.
I'm sorry to hear about this Mike. It sucks when stuff like this happens. Viper makes a good alarm. As far as the loudness, talk to the installer, and ask if an upgraded louder siren is avaliable. If you have air horns you can fire them off in conjunction with the alarm siren. Most alarm places advertise their prices as installed.
sorry to hear that. I put a viper 1000 alarm in my truck as soon as i got it. It was a bit spendy, but well worth it.
super duties are stolen a lot here where I am. the range is great and alarm is really loud (tied siren to my air horns too ) . i strongly recommend it. i think the 1002 is the current version.
I have an Autopage on my truck with remote start and love it! It is nice and loud and I like that the remote screams when the alarm goes off not just the truck. Just remember to arm it, the one night I forgot they broke into my truck
I had my truck broken in to twice, and stolen once, in the same week. When I got it back, I had a Clifford system put into it with extra hood and tailgate sensors, a pass-through sensor, 2 - 130 dB "pain sirens", and a self-powered 160 dB backup siren under the hood. That system setup and install cost me around $800. In my opinion: worth every penny.
I have since added perimeter radar and gps tracking to that base system, which is overkill and costly, but saves me a reasonable amount on my insurance which takes some of the sting out of it... but I wanted to make #$%^ sure that the truck never got jacked again, and if it did I could bloody well track them down immediately.
Since the install of the base system, I have had several occasions where every other car where I was parked have had their side windows smashed and the loose valuables taken but my rig was left untouched... and countless times where someone "tested the system" and then chose to leave my truck alone when the warning chirp sounded.
I have the viper 8507, which has the the remote start, cool down timer and one two-way remote among just some of the features. Hopefully I can get to the truck before it scares them away, should someone try to get into it. It was just over $500 installed.
Here in the mountains alot of vehicles get hit when the people go off on hikes, camping, snowmobiling , etc and leave their vehicles at the trailheads. Some of it is there own damn fault for leaving valuables, i.e. purses, computers and the like lying in plain view in the vehicle but it still take a jerk to break in and take their stuff.
Good luck and sorry the idiots broke up your truck.
