ohk some of yal are probabbly aware of what i've been fighting the past couple months. i've got rid of the knock by switching oil back to delo, installed hpx which helped, retqd driver side UVC. But STILL it is sounding different then when i first got it. i know i've got bunch of answers about it and THANKS to ya i got you on a rep list as soon as i can give it to ya ha but im just wantin to get it back the way it was. now then the sound im talkin about is through all rpm range and really not anything at idle.. its just like more of a CRACKLING instead of a ping. anything im missing as far as troubleshooting? would air in anything cause this? and also would the exhaust upgrade cause this? if so would all yal's do it? anyway after this i guess i'll quit throwin this at yal.. and im sorry bout keep bringin it up. I guess my last resort is gonna be lucas i've got friends that are tellin me that it will solve it but i've seen test show it aint to good for it so i dont know what to do next! thanks again guys
Sorry Steve, but I suck at noises over the internet. Usually when we talk about cackle, we're talking about air and a starving #8 injector due to the factory design. The upgraded exhaust will definately make things sound different. Have you checked for exhaust leaks? Up-pipe leaks?
Since the Delo swap seemed to make a difference, it seems like the injectors are playing a role in this. Are you running any fuel additive? You might try a stronger dose of additive, and consider re-torquing all the injectors.
no goin to the mailbox tomorrow! and i'm gonna send the analysis from the delo eventho none of this racket was exsisting then. And i know you can't really hear what im talkin about but i would still like to hear yal's thoughts. lucas fuel addative do anybetter than diesel kleen? all injectors passed buzz test and sounded strong!
i can get ahold of some bio but im just worried there's something more.. would it hurt to really increase the dose of diesel kleen? make it more potent if you will ha maybe it would really cleen the injectors out
That is the wonderful thing about trying to increase the does of the snake oils. All you might do is mask the problem. I would try taking the injectors out and have them tested before all this cleaning. You might have a worn injector or something but cleaning is not really helpful when you don't know if it is dirty or broken

But that's the whole purpose of the "snake oil" in this test. To determine if the noise is from the injectors or something else. If the miracle in a bottle fixes the noise, we're dealing with an injector issue. If the noise is unchanged, we may be dealing with something else. I'd hate to tell a guy to pull all his injectors for no reason.
Big Steve,
I'm with you on the cackle thing. Did everything these forums suggest to eliminate it and its the same as it was the day I bought the truck. Reg return, HPX, tried the blue cps, In tank mod, fuel line mod, higher fuel pressure, Diesel kleen. 5-40 synthetic, DP Tuner (which makes a ton more rattle cackle) Nothing makes my truck quiet but warm weather, warm engine and stock mode tuner. Mine does it right at 1600 RPM and it seems to flatten out and lay down on power at the point cackle starts. Then it smoothes out at 2100 Rpm. Maybe I have a bad injector its a 2000.
