I think my Metallica CD's are starting to take their toll. I have the Premium stereo system from the factory. I don't want to alter anything, like adding subs or extras. I'd like a good replacement speaker for the front doors. The stock ones lasted a long time and I'd have no hesitancy in getting the OEM replacements, but wanted to see what everyone else is using or has used. Alpine, JVC, Sony, Pioneer...whatever. Thanks!

Really? That's nice to know! Guess it shows you don't have to get the high-end units to get quality sound. Awesome. Thanks for the tip! How hard are the door panels to take off?
I went with the Pioneers myself, they sound real good and are Pioneer quality. You might also post this question here in the audio/video section of this site. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum60/

Great minds think alike! I actually did earlier and have started getting some answers there, too!
I have a full system in my truck. It has Boston Acoustics SL-80's in all 4 doors with a Kicker zx650.4 amp on them. My sub is a 15" Kicker L7 with a Kicker zx1500.1 on it. The SL-80's are direct drop ins for our doors and feature a 5 1/4 woofer and a 1" tweeter in a 5 x 7 plate. They sound spectacular, but are a bit spendy.
i run blaupunkt 3-ways in my expy's doors. sound great, and can be had cheap from ebay. this isnt my first set either. when i get some more cash, i plan on adding them to the p71 as well.
I have a set of Zapco component speakers in my Mustang that are absolutely amazing. It is the lower end of the Zapco stuff and I got them for a song brand new from a Zapco dealer that I know. Look into some components.

The door panels aren't too hard to take off (this is how my 98 came off).
Front doors:
1. Pry up the switch cover and mirror control and disconnect wires.
2. Remove reflector off the bottom of the door panel and remove screw from inside.
3. Remove trim peice from around door handle and remove bolt.
4. Remove trim peice from top edge of the door panel (above main panel) and remove bolt.
5. Lift panel straight up to remove. Be careful not to break off tabs. Also at this time, unplug light from panel.
Rear door:
1. Removel trim peice from around door handle and remove bolt.
2. Remove 2 screws from bottom of panel.
3. Lift panel straight up to remove, again be careful not to rbreak off tabs.
Good luck on installing your new speakers. I just installed Sony xplod 4ways in my Expy.
