What did I do wrong?

I changed the fluids in my differentials to day and for some reason I can't get the full 3 1/2 quarts in to the rear one. I let it drain with the cover off for well over and hour while I cleaned up the cover and resealed it. I could only get in 3 quarts in. What did I do wrong, anyone ever run into this by chance? Thanks, Todd

Is your driveline stock, because a high pinion angle (can be caused by a lift) can cause a decreased capacity due to the angle of the plug.

I didn't lift it, bought it used, but it does look like it has been lifted with some type of block over the axle may be a 4 inch lift. Would that cause a 1/2 quart difference?

If it's a 350, the 4 inch block is the stock one from Ford.
