Cold Weather

Hi all, this is my first winter with my Ford and I was wondering besides putting the anti gel in the tank if I need a block heater as well? My Dodge had the plug in and my 2006 F-250 does not. It gets down in the teens here in the winter. Will it be ok without a block heater or should I get one or have the plug in installed. Not sure what the price is on either one, what do you all think? Oh and by the way it does stay outside, with the 6 inch lift it will not fit in the garage!
Thanks

Check out this thread, all your answers are there.. In a nutshell you already have the heater (and may have the cord too).

Yeah, I read that it's tucked away behind the front bumper. At first I looked to see the orange cord attached to the oil pan general area. I took off the grill for better access and found it. Then I zip tied it to one of the front tow hook brackets.

it should start in those temperatures without help, BUT it will start faster and easier if it is plugged in for an hour or two. the faster it reaches full temp the sooner you have heat in the cab, the engine runs more efficiently when hot so the sooner yoour reach temp the better your mileage will be. if you have acces to a plug in use it, easier on starter, batteries, oil stays a little cleaner too.( less fuel dilution)

I live near Albany, NY and I have family due north on the NYS side of the Quebec border. I don't plug it in and it starts every time. I'm talking below zero temps without wind chill.

yeah i have seen mine start at minus 30 celcius, and it actually started very well. however its easier on it to plug in when its avaliable and it warms up that much sooner

I have a timer on mine when it gets cold. I have it turn on the power about 2 hrs ahead of when I need to start it in zero weather. It makes a lot of difference in starting and is easier on the starter.
