Question This question is just too easy...

Hello friends,

I am attempting to replace the handbrake pawl spring -mine has broken and this will cause the truck to fail it's annual road worthiness test.

I see that the spring wraps around a fixing that is not meant to be removed, it's sort of riveted.

So. I guess I have to cut it out and use a bolt instead.

I have removed the handbrake mechanism, however, am stuck regarding how to unscrew the cable to enable me to finally remove the mechanism from the cab.

The picture below show my dilemma --the large silver bit that has two bits like a tuning fork has a hexagonal end like for a spanner. I've tried loosening it, but didn't want to force it.

Can I just check --do I unscrew this end of the tuning fork thing to release the brake cable?

Thanks very very much.

Cheers,
A./

Apologies for the terrible picture, but it hopefully shows the tuning fork on the LHS with the nut bit in the middle.

The hexagognal end is actually a jam nut tightened up against the fork shaped piece to lock it in place. Hold the fork shaped piece and back of the jam nut and the fork part should then screw off.
