I have a farm truck which came with the farm. The previous owner was not much into upkeep and its suffered.
The basics: 1978 F100, 351m
The kinda bad: missing/broken parts from manifold, see pics. The bolt is temporary . Positive pressure coming out of the hole. What exactly was here and how do I fix it?
Sorry if its a rookie question, learning on the fly.
A 351M has a dry intake, so it won't be for a temperature sensor. It's a manifold vacuum tap. Find the right thread and put a pipe plug there. You can put a tiny amount of thread sealer on the threads if you want.
If you put your finger on it, will it blow it off, or try and suck it in? If it trys to blow it off, its part of your exhaust crossover. If it trys to suck it in, that is part of the intake passgeways. Like mentioned earlier, a pipe plug will make that particular issue go away.
Tries to blow it off. Put the bolt on and it runs better. I will probably have to weld something more permanent or see if I can get the outer bolt off and put the plug in.
Its definitely blowing out. Looks like the ported vacuum switch with the plastic sheered off. There are two of those nearby (no hoses on either) each with 2 outlets. They are plastic on the top. One is directly below the hole in question in the 1st picture the second a little farther down (white plastic covered with grime).
I stole this picture from another thread. The big tall thing left hand side of the carb is what your engine was missing. I wouldnt worry about re-installing it, just plug the hole and call it done.
it was my picture from the smog equipment thread, and i don't mind at all masterbeavis if ya want to use it, that t bird is in good shape and is for sale, and i used it to show what a bone stock engine looked like for smog equipment. i thought for a second some one else had a t bird too then then it hit me you just pasted it off my post, lol i thought i was in the twilight zone!!!! any ways if any one is interested i you can pm me and i will send you my e-mail address and send you pics as long as you live in Ontario Canada or want to travel.
