2000 Excursion with GPCM (California). It takes about 3-4 seconds of cranking before it fires. No CEL. No white smoke when finally starts. Same long crank above or below 55 degrees (I think that's the point glowplugs come into play). No sputtering or romp after it fires and no loss of power. Batteries are good as is alternator (new). THe HPOP oil level is normal. It starts quicker when warmed up. My previous GPR truck would fire within the first second.
I have a 2000 superduty same problem hard start after sitting over night. Long crank drawing down on batteries .I have gone through the hpop check the batteries load tested they are new.Checked cables .I t start good after the truck warms up I can start it hard and then turn it off 30 sec later and it starts fine. Well after some more diagnostics I did I removed the starter took it to a rebuild place I know they split it open and it was all corroded and bad in side .He said this is comon in these trucks because the water leaks down into them. I ordered a new high torque one from db electric e-bay 123.00 plus 25.00 shipping it will be here on tues . I am very sure this is the problem but I will know for sure tuesday.Good luck hope this helps
