Tranny rattling my bones

I just got back from the big North/South F-100 Run in Santa Maria CA, and on the drive back up to the Bay Area I started hearing a rattling coming from the front transmission area. It's a C4 attached to a 79 302, and the rattling occurs in all gears, only above 2000 RPM. It doesn't make any noise during acceleration or deceleration, just when maintaining a steady speed. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Thanks

Craig, check your u joints, if they look ok then have your drive line checked out it may have gotten a little bend in it or maybe a weight fell off, the drive line has to be balanced or you'll have a vibration, if that checkes out ok then you may have lost a weight on the fly wheel.

I also had a loose converter bolt in a C4/302 that I put in a 64 Falcon. Its something you only do once!

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately I can't check all those things until next weekend because I left the truck in San Luis Obispo with my friend while I drove back with her car to paint it. Thanks anyway, I hope it all works.

Ok so this string is a little old but as I was tearing my truck down for its complete tranformation I went to remove the speedo sensor from the tranny and ATF came gushing out. That's not supposed to happen as far as I know. So with the aforementioned symptoms and this new finding does anybody have any new ideas? Thanks

Hello Sounds like you may have to much fluid in transmission. I would recomend draining it if it has a plug or dropping the pan and changing the filter if it does not. Try that before take it to the shop.
