shopping around

I'm thinking that spring time will hopefully be time to get a new vehicle after we get moved into a house. Anyways, I was looking at the 05 and up body in a supercrew 2wd as a family hauler. How does it handle these duties? And are there many serious quality issues? Thats what makes me hesitant of getting another Dodge.
So, would the usual intake, exhaust, and chip help the fuel mileage out? I have an 05 Caravan right now, so the mileage isn't the best in that either. I'm just looking for something large that is more useful than an SUV.

Get the Supercrew.

I have a 05 Dodge Durango with the Hemi and 3rd row seating. I bought it thinking it would be a better family vehicle for 2 infants and a toddler.

Probably one of the biggest vehicle mistakes I have ever made. The Durango can barely hold all 5 of us.

On the other hand, my 06 SuperCrew FX4 (see gallery for pics) can hold all three kids IN CARSEATS on the backseat...and they all have at least 6" of space between each other.

I'm still pissed about buying that Dodge. I traded in an 03 Mustang GT for the POS.

buy a nice 06 Supercrew. The 04/05 trucks are good trucks, but they had some issues. The 06+ trucks are about as bulletproof as you can get. Many guys on this forum and others have 100,000+ miles with pretty much no major problems. The fit/finish on my truck is awesome IMO

forgot some things you were asking about

Before the S/C'r, my MPG with the 5.4 3v V-8 was about 12.5-13 mpg city...and upwards of 20 mpg highway.

With good gas and normal roads, I've pulled 20+ mph highway, and my city mileage was closer to 14-15 mpg.

5.5 ft bed = a 6ft x 5.5ft x 2ft space
6.5 ft bed = a 6ft x 6.5ft x 2ft space

a bed cover/cap runs about $600-1200 for a hard one...and the soft ones are $200-300.

so you get triple, if not quadrouple the space, and it stays dry.

depending on your front seat choice, the Supercrew will easily seat 5 - 6 BIG adults. I've got a flow-through console, so I can only get 5...which is good, since I'm already there...but I'm done. No more kids for me

Honestly, these trucks should all get 100K with no major issues. My 04 has almost that and I have a mutual friend that has a 1998 F150 4.6 with 225K with only a few quirks. I think the 100K mile barrier the time these motors are broken in. I would think a SCREW would be perfect for a family because a truck is so practical. It is also a good time to buy one since its a buyers market.
