Unhappy Just pulled an idiot move

I feel like an idiot for doing this but whatever I guess. Ok, I was backing into my garage at my apartment and its just a little garage and I wasnt paying attention and you can guess what happened next. Smash, there goes the driver side mirror. Not very happy, but anyway I just broke the glass and I was wondering if I can just buy the glass part or do I have to buy an entirely new mirror. I have a 2004 Supercrew FX4

Smile Sorry about that..

Oh man. Well, you know what they say, **** happens, (and it happens to all of us, at one time or another). And of course, everything can be fixed.

I think your going to have to replace the entire mirror. I have looked at Ford parts site and have never seen just the glass listed. I could be wrong, have been before, will be again!

Call the dealer and ask. One thing... How would you installed the glass?? It does not look like the mirror can be taken apart to do that....

Before you buy a new mirror, try a couple auto glass repair shops. Also, a glass & tile biz might have the right weight of glass and be able to cut one for ya. Weigh up the cost, but it might be a little cheaper and certainly less hassle than changing out the whole mirror.

Go to a local glass installer and have him replace the mirror. This happened to a friend of mine and that is what he did. However, is you go to the dealer they will tell you that the entire unit must be replaced and the $ for the part and installation will be high.

I cracked the mirror in my '03 F150 a couple of years ago. I just took to a auto glass dealer, and he ordered a replacement mirror. I don't remember how much it costs, but I do know it wasn't that much....def. cheaper then replacing the whole thing.

Someone driving down the road, took out my driver mirror. Took it to the dealer, 45 dollars later, brand new glass, and they even reattached my wide angle mirror. Take it to the dealer, they'll know what to do.

Check with your dealer first. I had a 99 F-150 and they used to stress crack in the mirrors. I took it in under warranty and they just replaced the glass. Hope this helps.

I had to replace the entire mirror on our 06 F-150 when a less-than-skilled employee wiped it out on one of those concrete pillars that they put by the edge of commercial garage doors to protect the doors. It is a basic mirror (manual, no power) and I can't remember exactly but I believe it was $600+ Cdn$.

Crazy, therefore hopefully you can do just the glass.

I have 05 FX4 SCAB. I smashed the ds mirror backing out of garage. It was the deluxe mirror (heated and turn). I could not buy parts had to replace the whole assy. Total cost 181.00. I let the dealer do it because the labor was only 40 bucks.

the glass can be replaced but if you have the heated glass the unit must be replaced as the glass is not sold. runs 181.00 from ford.

I thought I saw in a magazine or on line somewhere where you could upgrade your mirrors to have the turn signals in them, I just don't remember if it was replacing the whole assemblyor not?

Go to the dealer first as mentioned above. If they tell you that you have to replace the whole mirror then try your local glass dealer. I have taken a couple of my vehicles to my local glass shop and they ordered just the mirror part cut for my trucks and put it on in about five minutes and charged under twenty dollars.
