The A/C in my 1990 F250 has recently started staying on.
I started seeing a puddle on the ground after shutting off the truck, even though I had not turned on the A/C.
Today I popped the hood and could see the compressor starting up, even though I had the heat on.
At that point, I shut off the engine, and unplugged the connector on the compressor, as I won't likely need A/C over the winter.
What should I check for to troubleshoot this?
Something is telling the A/C to come on, just not familiar enough with this truck to know what. I did search for it, didn't find anything too helpful though. It's probably here somewhere, and I'm just using the wrong search terms.
Every setting except for floor and vent will run the compressor. Mix or bi level will run the defrost which runs the compressor. You will want the ac hooked up for the defrost to work well since it pulls humidity out of the air.
Some owners install a switch to shut off the compressor.II don't mindd the comp coming on in defrost but don't really want it on the other modes.
It is a good idea to run the A/C occasionally to keep the seals lubricated.
