Engine Oil Leak

I took my 06 F350 to the dealer because of an oil leak coming from the bottom of the oil pan. We heard from the dealer that the leak is behind the engine and tranny. The engine will have to be pulled out. Has any one gone through this kind of major surgery on their F350 diesel?

Well the dealer has had my truck for 2 weeks, they said today that the engine will have to be replaced!!! Bearing wear on crank shaft. So it looks like I will be getting a new engine. LKWDF350

That bearing wear part is a little scary - did they give you any reasons as to why that may have happened?

No not really. I knew it was motor oil when I found the leak. When the dealer said earlier in the week that they are changing the 'Back plate', that did not make sense! I knew it had to be something else. At least it won't be a rebuild!

Yeah - be thankful for warranties!

I was curious about the dealership you were using because I had heard some reports about Cerritos that were not too encouraging. The only dealer in the area I have used is Downey, and that was just for a trans. service.

Check out the SoCal forum some time when you have a chance - there are a few local Super Duty owners in there:

This is the real question. What caused the failure? Not just woops it broken. But was it a defective crankshaft that scored out the bearings. ???

It might have been just a defect on your truck,, but there may be many others out there with a potential failure. So if you get a chance look at the engine and see what failed.

Latest news:
The engine came in today. It sound like Wednesday possibly Thursday I'll get to pick it up. The dealer did know much on way the bearing wear on the crank shaft but he said he would ask the mechanic.
