I need new tires for my 89 F150 4x4. Looking at 33x12.5x15. I want BFG All terrains but the Pro Comp All Terrains are 3 for one at 2 different online warehouses. A big diff. in price. Anyone have 33x12.5x15 Pro Comp All Terrains on an F150? How are they in snow and mud? Are they as good as the BFG? Any help is appreciated.

you say there is a big difference in price, but there also is a huge difference in quality. i run 32x11.5 bfg allterrains kos and i think they are great. i will compare tires since my friend with a chevy has procomp 32's. the bfg is definately more aggressive looking and stronger sporting the 3 ply sidewall. in mud the procomps just plain blow. he has a 4x4 and got stuck, while i have 2wd and sprayed mud allover his truck. in the snow i would think they would be about equal. i will give that the procomps last longer but thats just because they really dont have the tread blocks like the bfg's do. as far as ride the bfgs are great and there is noise but its not bad, sounds cool to me. the procomp allterrains seemed actually harsher to me but it was on a totally different truck. procomps IMO are just plain ugly and look like a highway tire. go with the bfg kos they are well worth the money. i love them. bfgs are the best tires. it will be cheaper to buy the bfgs because if u buy the procomps u will change ur mind and empty your wallet again. go with the bfgs i guarantee that you will like them.
the reason his truck got stuck was casue it was a chevy not cause of the pro comps. i had 33 12.50 porcomp mud terrians on my old ranger 4x4 and loved them. i was gonna get bfgs but the pro comps where buy 3 get 1 free and also the guy at 4 wheel parts recommened them. he had some 35 inch pro comp mud tires on his jeep and he said he has had both and pro comps were just as good and the reason he liked them better is cause they were quieter. hut this time aorund on my f-250 im gonna get bfg mud terrians just cause i wanna try them out. also i hope thier louder cause i love the tire humming noise
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Dec-02 AT 04:48 PM (EST)]yes you are right it was probably because it was a chevy, but we are talking about the allterrain series not the mudterrain. the difference between the 2 mudterrains is a whole different thread. im still standing by my opinion over the bfgs. by the way you will like the bfg mudterrain way more than the procomp mudterrains starat. your mudding ability was greatly increased by the fact that you had 33x12.5's running on a ranger. thats more tire than truck. the 4wheelparts guy will always tell you to go with procomp over other brands because...the company that owns 4wheelparts also owns procomp. thats why all you see in there magazines are procomp crap. i agree their procomp muds are quieter than bfg mudterrains and may last a little longer but the bfgs are much better looking and better in the mud. you can tell by just looking at the tread design. IMO procomp is just the cheap way to go but you get what you pay for.
I'm in sales and if a company makes more profit off the procomps than BFGs they will recommend and tell you a cute little story for the Procomps every time. I recommend the BFGs hands down.

I have BFG's All Terrains on now and agree they are a great tire. Never had a problem until I ran over some sharp scrap metal and punctured one. I plugged it and so far so good, but they are worn and need replacing. The Pro Comps are compared to BFG's, I was hoping they were "as good" or close since they can be had for alot less. Has anyone used both on the same vehicle for comparison? I will probably end up buying the BFG's again unless someone can convince me that the Pro Comps are nearly as good. Thanks in advance.

pro comp mud terrians are not a bad tires. i recommend them to everyone. my friend has a ranger same as mine 4 inch lift same engine same mods done also. i had 33 12.50 pro comp mud terrians and he had 32 11.50 bfg mud terrians. we really couldent tell a differnce between them. now pro comp all terrians vs. bfg all terrians that might be a diffrent story ive never owned either of them and dont plan on it. this time around on my f-250 im gonna get 315/75/16 bfg mud terrians just to see how they are cause everyone keeps telling me good stuff about them. i think bfg mud terians look better than pro comp but that dosent mean they perfrom better.
the bfgs have the diggerlugz or whatever they call them. that definately provides more traction than a tire without them. (procomp) as a matter of fact a buddy of mine got stuck last night because he couldnt get any traction. his tires just kept spinning because they wouldnt clean. he had the procomps but i think they were worn down real far thats prob why but it was funny because in the process the got a burb stuck, a winch truck stuck, and a tractor stuck trying to pull this guy out.
BFG all-terrains or Procomp All-terrains are a waste of money. They both perform very badly off-road (mud). The only place they perform a little would be on gravel roads. They do provide a quiet ride. I would really reccomend going with the BGF Mud-terrains. They are an awesome tire. they have alot of beef agressive looks and perform awesome in any off-road condition!!! They are a little louder the all-terrains but compared to all other off-road tires they are exceptionally quiet!! They run about $170- 195 a tire.
HOPE THIS HELPS
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!:-X12
I would definately consider the BFG muds but I would think they wouldn't perform well in snow, which is why I chose the all terrains in the past. They probably would do well in deep snow but packed wet snow, I doubt it. Is this true? Trying to find a tire that performs in both mud and snow is not easy, it's usually a compromise. I should consider 2 sets of tires but the wallet is a bit light for that.

The all terrains do good in the snow except for ice, they arn't soft enough but they do ok. I have run snow tires and I ripped them off and put my BFG muds back on because I didn't need them, the BFGs do fine. The snow tires I have are studded and they are awful on dry pavement.

you cant compare tires on 2 diffrent vechiles. if you compare at least make sure thier the same vechile. i had a 93 4x4 ranger with air intake and exhaust. 4 inch lift with 33 12.50 pro comp mud terrians. my friend has a 94 ranger with the same air intake and exhaust and 4x4. we both have 4.0 v6 engines. he has 32 11.50 bfg mud terrians. we couldent really tell a diffrence between them. we each went threw the same mud holes and we each made it threw. if there was a diffrence it was maybe the pro comps were a little quieter. we were each very happy with out tires
