I just recieved the SCT X3 from Innovative Diesel. They were great to deal with. Both Ted and Eric spent countless hours on the phone with me answering all my questions. I ordered it yesterday and the UPS guy brought it to me today. I am waiting for my tunes but if they worked that fast at getting me the tuner I have high hopes of getting my 3 tunes by the morning.
Anyway they are great to work with and I hope that the customer service continues to be good. I think when Matt at Spartan slows down and gets the Phalax out for our trucks that will be good and I will update again when that happens.
I cant wait to see what the SCT does for my truck and it will be nice to have some safe, reliable performance in my truck.
I'm leaning very heavily on getting a programmer (SCT X3) for my truck. Maybe I'll have to give Innovative a call. I'd go Spartan but I'm hearing that they're customer service is lacking at the moment.
Matt is very busy with the 6.4 stuff and the development and testing of the Phalanx (or whatever its called) for the 6.0L. Its been a long time comming. If you have patience, which I do...to a certain extent, then Spartan is the way to go. It took them about 4 months to get back to me with a price.
The price for the SCT X3 from Innovative was exactly the same as it was from Spartan. It came to me in 1 day with free shipping. I opted to get the extreme tune that Ericc writes for a non studded 6.0 It did cost 50.00 more to get the extreme tune but for me to get it afterwords it is 65.00. I also got 2 other tunes with it. I am waiting for them to show up in my in box. I will post up when all that comes and I drive it some. I had to take a trip today and wished I had it but thats what I get for not emailing them the strategies right away. I am sure I will hae them on Monday.
somone will be smoking some rubber. i can only imagine what those trucks run like with SCT . i went sideways today on wet road with dually....
i got to get me a tuner
Pete, when you get studs spartans ultra-comp is must tune to try. TEC6 is unreal power wise aswell.Matt is dam slow sometimes but his tunes are second to none IMHO
so many people have been switching to Innovative now that DJ is out of business and all the reviews I'm reading are talking about how much nicer people like their Innovative tunes.
I agree that Matt is second to none...but when it takes 4 months to get back to someone with a price I think thats too long. If I did that to my customers I would be out of buisness. I was willing to wait but when I was ready to buy I am still waiting to hear from Matt. When Matt comes out with his new tuner and he gets everything going and quicker at responding I will go with it and sell my X3...maybe.
I called innovatibe atleast 25 times and both Ted and Eric were very nice and either emailed or called me within 10 minuites of leaving them a mesage. They answered all of my questions and will give me safe tunes for a non studded engine. I am just looking for some extra power now that I have put some bigger tires on. They also turn off the EGR valave on their tunes too which is a help. I cant wait until tomarrow so I can get the tunes on my computer and in my truck.
fairly new to diesels, but I bought my X3 a couple months ago with custom tunes from Mike at 5startuning based on some suggestions from here. Mike was extremely helpful (even gave me his cell#). Running the econ tune netted me about 1.5 mpg overall. Also got the 65hp tow tune and the 100hp performance. Truck is an '06 F-250 loaded for work at about 9,000 lbs and will light up the tires like crazy! I actually get decent mileage on the performance setting when I can keep my foot out of the go pedal.
Anyway, just wanted to put in a good word for 5startuning.

I have everything installed on my lap top just waiting for Eric to finish up my tunes. The only question I have is will the SCT X3 save the stock file on the device or should I put it on the Lap Top too. There is a spot for it in the SCT Updater program. But I dont know how to get it off the Tuner...when the time comes to program my truck. I am computer illiterate so I amazed myself that I could get this far.
You'll love Eric's tunes. I have had mine for a year now. He programmed it for my mods, ARP head studs, exhaust and AFE cold air intake. I can light up my 35's like it's nobody's business. Something like $450.00 bucks for the tuner and tunes, smoking some kid in a brand new mustang with my almost 8000lb Excursion; priceless.
One more thing though. Buy some gauges. On the hot tune, if you don't watch it, EGT's will hit 1,400
I am hoping that I will Love the tunes from Eric. I probably wont run the extreme tune yet until I put the studs in. I already have gauages and my truck has a few mods. I think I am going to order the Diesel Site Coolant Filter Kit too...just for some more added protection.
I have the 3 tunes written for my truck installed in the SCT. I called Eric back today just to make sure the extreme tune is safe for a non studded engine and it is. I dont drive my truck like a race car but its nice to know the power is there if I need it....
Things that I have noticed and have questions about:
The truck is now very quiet, not worried just dont know why.
What is everyone running there rev limiter too, it was set at 4100 so that is where I left it for now.
What percent is everyone running there shift points at and what is the difference in - and + shifts. I left them all at 0% until I hear from you guys that have had a SCT for a while.
I read the book cover to cover but none of that was in there.
I will drive it a little later when I get it out of the shop. Its blocked in right now.
