door adjustments

alright so my drivers side door is far from correct.

symptoms

the back of the door (handle and that stuff) is too close to the cab, not a 1/4 inch or so like the passenger thus it hits the cab and wont close quite all the way.

next the...lord what would you call it? the groove? on the door does not line up with the fender and the cab

the bottom of the door sits out about an inch or two? from the cab, unlike the passenger side that sits close to the cab

I tried adjusting the bottom hinge and I could line up the groove but i could not get it to have the correct spacing

i will try and get some pictures if they're needed.

Pictures help.

There are 4 places to get adjustment for the door.

2 are the hinge mount to cab: These will adjust your front to back settings of the door.

2 are the door to hinge: These will adjust your in and out of door.

All adjustments can be made here to get the door back into specs. Don't forget to double check the striker post after making adjustments to verify it is still lined up.

No problem. Based on what you posted above I'll try my best without the pics.

Move the hinges (probably both) towards the fender. This will pull the door away from the rear jamb and move it closer to the front.

next the...lord what would you call it? the groove? on the door does not line up with the fender and the cab

The dentside. Up and down vertically or in and out? Up and down vertically can be adjusted by moving the hinge to cab and door to hinge up or down. Usually there is not much need for adjusting up and down play. Adjustment of this is minimal at most.

the bottom of the door sits out about an inch or two? from the cab, unlike the passenger side that sits close to the cab

this adjustment will come from the lower door to hinge. Loosen bolts and push door in further on hinge.

I tried adjusting the bottom hinge and I could line up the groove but i could not get it to have the correct spacing

There are so many possibilites of adjustment it may take adjusting all 4 points to get that door perfect. It is a major pain in the kazoo to get it figured out

Yeah that is what I have learned by trying to do it ahahah :-)

here are some pictures, I think like you said it's just a matter of getting it all figured out

and if you look at the pictures, if I move the door up anymore (adjusting the lower hinge) it wont close because it will be over laying the cab.

the top of the door (by the vent window) is the same distance as the passenger door.

Try loading your pictures right to the thread. My McAfee software has blocked all the pictures except this one:

I take it this is with the door closed all the way? If so you need to adjust your striker in further on the door jamb. It takes a T-50 torx socket to loosen it up.

You can also host pictures at Supermotors.net. They will automatically resize them for you so they are not this large.

it looks like his door hinges might be worn out. Very comon for the drivers side.

With the door open, grab the door at the bottom and lift up. there should be little to no play in the hinges.

If you can lift the door up quite a bit, I would look into getting new hinges, or get a hinge pin and bushing kit. Last time I checked you could get the "kits" in the help section of autopart stores.

After fixing the hinges, (If needed) then I would adjust the doors.

You are right about worn out hinges. I have been lucky enough to not have a bad set of hinges to worry about that. Not being able to see the pics doesn't help me.

Additional Information:

Did not realise that your truck has a bent frame.

You mention that in this post here...

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...the-beast.html

The frame being bent could be causing, (most likely is causing) the door to be out of alignment, by putting a bind on the cab.

You mention that you are saving up money to have the frame straightened.

Having the frame straightened may pull the door, as well as your bed back into alighnment.

It might not be possible to adjust the door into alignment before the frame is straightened.

I still can't see the pictures, blocked by McAfee The only one I see is the one I posted.

The T-50 is what size socket you need for the door striker pin.

If you have a bent frame on the truck that could be some major problems for gettting those doors to close properly.

I would say yeah the frame bent on it would, but it was like this prior to the accident, It has been like that since I have owned the truck from my grandpa. Maybe the frame being bent isnt letting it be adjusted properly? I can see that and did not tink of that thanks ranger i'll have to mess with it more and see
