Hey guys I have a 2005 f350 on first start in the mornings it runs very rough for quite a while then when it warms up its fine. Took it to a ford service dept. and they said the inside of the fuel tank is delaminated and the tank, fuel pump, and all 8 injectors would have to be replaced for $6000. I have heard of this problem before but I'm not totally convinced because it runs fine when its warm if there were particles clogging things up wouldnt it run rough all the time?
Yup out of warranty on truck but not on the motor 56000 miles truck is completely stock so no reason the warranty would be voided the shop says that ford will not cover this because the tank is not manufactured by ford so its not their problem. Have not changed the filters in a while, I might go ahead and do that and maybe see if anything comes out. I picked the truck up already the shop didn't mention any codes. If it did throw a code, would my sct programer I have in another truck pick them up?
Is your fuel tank aftermarket? If it's the stock fuel tank then it doesn't matter who makes it. Hell the engine isn't made by Ford but they still repair and warranty it.
I just replaced both filters and found what looks like metal shavings around the primary filter and found a few small shavings in the bottom of the bowl for the secondary filter so I guess that confirms that the service dept was right.
I have never run bio in this truck. Service dept advised me this has been an ongoin problem since 99 and they have seen many trucks come in like this but ford still continues to charge the owner. They have however updated the tanks in 07 according to the service manager so that tells you they know they have a problem.
When I had the same problem, they started by doing the inductive heating flash. This cost me a couple of mpg from the original unflashed 2003 setup. It didn't fix the problem. They replace the pasenger side injectors. It didn't fix the problem. They replaced the driver side injectors. It didn't fix the problem. They replaced the cam position sensor, and other than the lost mpg (they would not reinstall the original flash) I have not had any problems since.
