Why I keep my trailer hitch on all the time....

Sorry no pics guys, but I figure I'll pass it on anyways... Well last Saturday me andthe fam go to Wally World and come back to the house after about a 1.5 hour trip, we get back home to water running down the driveway. Long story short I'm now living in a rental because a pipe busted under the bathroom sink and destroyed ever sq foot of laminate flooring we had.

Anyways, a few days later I'm out to get some food, and the guy in front of me locks up his truck, and I do the same damn near hitting him myself. I real quick look back and notice that the driver behind me is not goin to stop in time, so I brace and luckily it was a small tap. I've hit phone polls harder backing into spots.... I pull over and get out. Well, its an asian girl in her very early 20's, and I also notice the dealer sticker on the window of her 2 week old audi A5. I'm thinking to myself, as her radiator is leaking like a stuck pig, damn, that's gonna cost a pretty penny LOL. My hitch of course was fine, and I told her I'm not the sueing kind, and she felt a whole lot better then hehe. The way I look at it, I'll take a few skinned shins every now and then over having to possibly fix my bumper!

I guess you could call it "the bumper saver mod".

I will have to get a pick of my bumper step; couldn't bring myself into buying one, so I made one with parts I had around the house. Dark now hopefully tomorrow.

I used to live in the city of Richmond, VA and had to parallel park my 250 everyday to go to school. It was a challenge but the grill guard and the trailer hitch came in very handy and I never had a ding! Now the other cars I cant speak for!

Glad your experience wasnt too bad!

This is actually the 4th or so time I've been rear ended, in the past 2 trucks I've had. Yeah, I think it's a worthwhile mod, and plus it shows that you bought the truck to use for towing, not for just the coolness factor lol

I leave my weight dstribution hitch on for similar reasons
lots of people down here figure they are in the parking space far enough when the bump the vehicle in front of them, but I always back in so they get a pretty good lesson on parking

I've seen that happen several times. The hitch always stays on my truck for that very reason.

The only problem with this practice for me is that after a couple MN winters that hitch will not come out. I need to use a couple different drawbars depending on which trailer is getting used. So, I take mine out. Been lucky so far. Knock on wood.
