New to FTE -got some questions!

I posted a thread on Superduty here and everyone said to post over here. I am in the process of rejuvenating my 2002 F-250 4x4 PSD with 152k. I have researched turbos and have chosen the BD thruster and autometer pyrometer. I currently have superchips and 4' turboback exhaust. I have also contacted ATS and ordered a Stage 2 tranny with all the bells and whistles.

What are your thoughts on this setup? Products chosen? I am towing 20k regularly and want power, safety and dependability and I am NOT a diesel gearhead yet, but I'm a learnin'.

Welcome to FTE Lusty. I would add a couple more guages to your truck. The Pyrometer is essential. You should consider a transmission temp guage and a boost guage. In stead of the Superchip a DP Tuner will give you exactly what you need. Each tune is customized to your pcm and to the supporting mods on your truck. What do you have for an intake? Here the 6637 is the favored one.

Welcome Lusty to

See these two links for maintenace and Mods.

Welcome to guzzle's Ford PSD Web Page

Powerstroke Help Network

You should also think about an aftermarket fuel return, in-tank pre-pump mod and an HPX.

Does the factory Tranny temp gauge count?

My truck came with the tranny cooler and gauge. How much is the DP tuner and what is the 6637? I will do these major things first then as I learn more from ya'll I will add stuff like the fuel return and the other stuff you mention(BTW-I don't know what the numbers and acronyms mean)
Do any of you have experience with ATS and BD?

The factory trans temp gauge is pretty much worthless. By the time it shows you are hot it's too late.

Go here for the DP Tuner: DP TUNER

Someone will chime in on where and how to do the 6637. It's a big air filter that you can replace your stock air box with. Lots of guys run them.

The Dp Tuner will run you around $400 (IIRC) with tunes

Welcome to guzzle's 6637 Filter Restriction Sensor Web Page
DP TUNER

Sorry about the Acronyms The 6637 is a NAPA filter that replaces the stock air box and intake.

Here is some more reading material for you!

The HPX I mentioned is a high pressure oil cross-connect between the heads. It evens out the pressure between the heads for a more reliable injector pressure reading for the PCM and usually a smoother idle.

The in-tank pre-pump mod removes air from the fuel lines which reduces injector noise and may also prolong their life.

An aftermamrket or DIY fuel return opens the dead ends of the fuel rail in each head so injectors get a better supply of fuel. This can quiet them down and also prolong their life.

How close to Arkansas are you? Consider BTS for a transmission if it's not too late on your order, such as a deposit.

Welcome, Lusty. I second stopping the ATS and getting a BTS trans. Warranty second to none, and they will do all the other mods everyone is saying including the chip. ATS may not warranty the trans if other aftermarket chips are installed, or so I have heard. The only BD item I have is the X Monitor.

Lindale is roughly between Dallas and the LA border -- not terribly out of the way for BTS. And the ATS is okay, but the BTS has essentially a lifetime warranty. If you break it, Brian fixes it for free! So I'd try to get that BTS if you still can, like already mentioned. I have no idea what a BD Thruster is -- BD = BullyDog?? You will need the standard Boost, Pyro, and tranny temp gauge, and the stock dash one doesn't count, if that's what you're talking about. It's basically an idiot light, not a true gauge. Sounds like you're on the right track though -- stick around, research this site, and ask lots of questions. This is not like most other forums where people jump your **** for asking questions -- we all know what it was like at first. So feel free...

Oh, and welcome!!

Welcome Lusty, like everyone else has said you won't find a better group of guys to ask questions about your Powerstroke or just shoot the chit.

I would suggest the Garrett GTP38R ball bearing turbo, David Lott down at Diesel Innovations in Houston can help you with that.. You are only a few hrs away from Lead hill AR, the home of BTS, Since you are also close to Dallas, I recommend Tony Wildman for your tuning needs. All that good stuff within a few hrs of the house. or within 1 day shipping time.
